Commissioner Clay says, "Use casino funds to pay property taxes for senior citizens and the county treasurer will refund 89 percent of the money back to the city. It's a good deal for everybody."

Black History calendars were given away FREE at the Dr. Martin Luther King Celebration on Monday, January 21 (the 11th year) at the Genesis Center compliments of Commissioner Rudy Clay.

The U.S. Census Bureau shows that Gary, Indiana has the highest percentage of African-American people of any city in the United States. Of 102,746 people, 86,340 or 85 percent are black... city was "under counted."

Commissioner Clay tells the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission at their public hearing in Gary that a 24 percent increase in electric rates are unjust and unnecessary. Clay said the electric bills could be "cut in half" if the commission issued an executive order instituting a "lifeline rate" program that would lower rates by 50 percent for the first 500 KWH of usage.

Commissioner Rudy Clay donated $1000 to West Side High School for expenses to travel to the Boys Basketball State Finals.

Rudy Clay is a U.S. Army veteran with an honorable discharge.

Rudy Clay is a member of the Steward Board of Israel C.M.E. Church and attends Sunday School every Sunday (2nd seat, 2nd pew).

Rudy Clay also spoke to the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission requesting they support using casino funds to pay the sewer fees for all residential customers. He also spoke against a 50 percent water rate increase that was requested by the water company.

Commissioner Clay was Grand Marshall for the 81st annual Memorial Day parade, Monday May 28th. Commander of the Gary Patriotic Memorial Association is Rev. Harry Caldwell U.S. Veteran. Clay is also a veteran with an honorable discharge from the U.S. Army.

Commissioner Clay received the "marchers" award and was nominated for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drum Major Award by the Frontiers Service Club (2002).
